Sashiko is AE Studio's native iPhone pattern-design app. The landing page is an animated introduction: ivory running-stitch lettering on indigo cloth, with ochre accents and a nested-square motif with diagonal corner connections. Click or tap the artwork to explore a three-chapter history of sashiko in English and Japanese. A separate control pauses and resumes the animation. Reduced-motion preferences show the completed embroidery.

## Current development build

The app supports editable stitch patterns, cloth dimensions and spacing, actual-size A4 and US Letter PDF charts, and saved stitching progress. It includes animated stitch instructions and English and Japanese interfaces. Pattern coverage and teaching guidance are still being reviewed.

## Pattern collections

Four original editable collections—Basics, Bands, Rhythms and Symmetry—include aligned stitches, alternating rows, grouped bands, offset rhythms and mirrored designs. The motif library includes cloth previews and pattern stories, including Asanoha and Seigaiha. Pattern detail pages identify the editing and stitching options available. The history pages introduce these collections in English and Japanese and link to the App Store.

## Common questions

### Which patterns should a beginner try?

Start with a small practice cloth and a simple repeat. The app’s Basics collection includes Aligned and Alternating rows. Editable pattern details include previews and stitching steps.

### Can I print a sashiko pattern at actual size?

Editable charts export as A4 or US Letter PDFs. Print at 100% / Actual size and measure the 50 mm calibration line before transferring the design to cloth.

### Can I save my stitching progress?

Save the design as a project and mark completed stitching runs as you sew. The project preserves progress for the next session; playing a demonstration does not complete runs.

### Does the app teach every sashiko technique?

The app provides planning tools, pattern stories and stitch previews for supported designs. Needle handling and starting, securing or joining thread remain part of learning the physical craft.

More questions are answered in the history chapters in English and Japanese.

## Availability

The app is in development. This page does not announce an App Store release, launch date or price. App Store buttons link to the app’s listing for current availability.

## Scope

Sashiko is also the name of a Japanese stitching tradition. The landing page introduces the app by AE Studio and opens a short history of the stitching tradition, covering practical origins, regional forms and its continuing practice. Computational motif studies are not claims of practitioner-verified sewing sequences. Physical sew-outs and device validation are still pending.
